Maria Ressa Commands The Truth In Award Winning Documentary, ‘A Thousand Cuts’, Post-Production by TBD Post.
Feature 1
“A Thousand Cuts”, director Ramona S. Diaz tells the remarkable, dangerous, and true story of Filipino-American journalist Maria Ressa as she investigates the Philippines’ president, Rodrigo Duterte and the corruption that surrounds his leadership. TBD Post’s Brandon Thomas, Dusty Albertz, Brad Engleking, and Dennis Valk were behind some of the magic that made this 2020 Gotham Awards Best Documentary winner happen.
TBD Posts’ colorist, Brandon Thomas, sets an ominous tone using shadowy blues and greens to heighten sinister parts of this documentary, while effectively showing hope and optimism in other clips using brighter highlighted tones. While showing the wonderful people of the Philippines grinning and looking to the future, or Maria Ressa giving a speech about change, Brandon alleviates some of the dark energy he successfully brought on earlier.
This insightful documentary has won numerous awards, including The Gotham Independent Film Award at the Gotham Awards, The David Carr Award for Truth in Non-Fiction Filmmaking at the Montclair Film Festival, The DocEdge Award at the Documentary Edge Festival, and The Cinema Eye Honors Award at the Cinema Eye Honors Awards.
